Wythe-Huguenot game suspended after altercation

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The George Wythe at Huguenot boys basketball game Friday night was suspended when an altercation broke out between the teams. The two sides agreed to end the game where it was stopped, with 2:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, giving Wythe a 47-44 win.

With the win, George Wythe secured the eighth and final spot in the Dominion District tournament. Had Wythe not gotten credit for the win, the Bulldogs would have had to compete in a play-in game against Monacan on Monday.

Players from both sides were ejected and will serve suspensions. Fighting warrants a two-game suspension. Leaving the bench is a one-game suspension. Neither school’s athletic director would say how many players were suspended.

Huguenot athletic director Shawn Knight did say his team may need to call up some players from the junior varsity.

Huguenot is scheduled to play at James River in the first round of the tournament. Wythe will play at L.C. Bird.
