After building a substantial lead in the first half, Detroit staved off James Madison for the 82-70 win on Saturday.

Detroit (17-12) made 15 of its first 19 shots to open an 18-point lead, but James Madison (11-18) found its stroke in the final six minutes before halftime to trail 45-38 at the break.

Despite a drop in 20.6 percentage points in shooting from the first half to the second half - 62.5 percent compared with 41.9 percent - Detroit's bench play, which outscored James Madison 39-7, enabled the Titans to win by a comfortable margin.

Jason Calliste led Detroit with 19 points, part of five Titans in double figures. James Madison's A.J. Davis led all scorers with 26 points.

Detroit converted 85.7 percent (18 of 21) free throws compared to James Madison's 60.9 percent (14 of 23).
