Green Dragons flying high
It was the week of two undefeated records becoming blemished, courtesy of, in both cases, an undefeated team.
"I feel like we're playing well we are playing as well as we can possibly be playing right now," Maggie Walker coach Paige Hawkins said.
On Oct. 3, the Thomas Dale Knights attempted to slay the Green Dragons, but Maggie Walker put a mark on the Knights' previously unblemished record. Maggie Walker won 2-0 on goals by senior Katy May and Abby Williams.
On Thursday, the Green Dragons faced off with Douglas Freeman. It took an extra period, but Williams was able to net a goal in overtime to hand the Rebels their first defeat.
"She's a first-time varsity kid, a sophomore," Hawkins said of Williams. "She has a really nice ability to rebound the ball in the circle if the goalie clears the ball. In the right place at the right time. She's been a nice and unexpected surprise."
Maggie Walker's success, though, is only as good as its next match.
"We just take one game at a time," she said. "Instead of looking at the record, we just take it one game at a time because at any time every team is beatable."
