Playoffs roundup: Hanover, Maggie Walker, Midlothian win titles

Abby Bellows scored twice, and Hanover also got goals from Michelle Knizner and Julia Dry to defeat Atlee 4-1 on Thursday to win the Capital District field hockey crown.

Ally Ritchie score the lone goal for the Raiders.

Keepers Hayley Smith and Bailey Lien were busy, recording 14 saves each.

COLONIAL DISTRICT

Katy May scored two second-half goals as top-seeded Maggie Walker Governor's School defeated No. 2 Douglas Freeman 2-0 to capture the district championship.

Siobhan Rigby had an assist, and goalkeeper Julia Whitehead made three saves for the Green Dragons.

Morgan Tignor and Jennifer Doggett combined for six saves for the Rebels.

DOMINION DISTRICT

Ashley Foster, Abbey Ripley and Allison Piotrowski found the net for Midlothian as the Trojans captured the Dominion District crown with a 3-2 win over James River.

Anne Martin recorded both goals for the Rapids.

Sarah Dawson made six saves for James River, and Abby Burnette had two for Midlothian.

CROSS COUNTRY

Cosby's Megan Moye won her second consecutive Dominion District individual title, crossing the finish at Pocahontas State Park in 17 minutes, 34.81 seconds. With her win, Moye was named district runner of the year.

Kaila Blackburn of Monacan was second, finishing in 18:10.93, but Midlothian came away with team title with 35 points.

The Trojans also won the boys title and were led by district runner of the year and champion Sean Willard, who won in 16:11.97. Midlothian's Ryan Peterson was second (16:29.09).

Midlothian's Stan Morgan was both boys and girls coach of the year.
