High school football results

Top-ranked Hermitage opened its season with a 27-0 victory over visiting Lee-Davis on Friday night.

Derrick Green had 27 carries for 132 yards and three touchdowns for the Panthers. Triston Wright had six catches for 64 yards.

The Panthers were led on defense by D'Vonta Derricott's eight tackles.

Brandon Wood amassed 248 yards of offense and scored three touchdowns as Varina defeated Dinwiddie.

Wood carried 14 times for 139 yards and a 50-yard TD and added 109 yards through the air with two more scores. Maurice Canady (53 yards rushing, 86 yards receiving) had a receiving and rushing score for the Blue Devils (1-0).

Darius Hawkins had 12 carries for 48 yards and two TDs and four catches for 44 yards to lead the Generals (1-1). Quarterback Bryan Finney had 186 yards passing.

Fourth-ranked Clover Hill compiled 354 yards rushing against Prince George, including 148 yards and a score from Darius Moffett and 138 yards and a score from Joel Caleb, as the Cavaliers (1-0) defeated the Royals (0-1).

Clover Hill's defense was stout, allowing only 179 yards. Holland Fisher recorded five solo tackles, five assisted tackles and a sack.

Daquon Chapman had 58 yards on the ground for the Royals.

Ruben Rucker was 25 of 35 passing for 217 yards and a touchdown, and rushed 11 times for 80 yards and a TD to help unranked Atlee rout No. 10 Deep Run.

Will McCombs added 10 receptions for 107 yards and a score for the Raiders (1-0), and Shaq Williams had six receptions for 62 yards and a TD.

Atlee's Cole Woody had 10 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

Wilson Vaughn and Matt Gamble each had a touchdown for the Wildcats (0-1).

Nicholas Doyle's extra point after Jainard Lambert's 1-yard run in the first quarter proved to be the difference as Cosby (2-0) downed Hopewell.

Tabyus Tyler caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Quanta Gholson in the fourth, but Hopewell (0-1) missed the extra point attempt. Darius Priest led the Blue Devils with 7 ½ tackles.

MONACAN 27, MILLS GODWIN 26

Corey Ambers scored from 8 yards out, and Abbey Coleman nailed the extra point in the fourth quarter to help the Chiefs edge the Eagles.

Jeremy Sternlicht scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put Mills Godwin ahead 26-20. Sternlicht finished with 185 yards rushing.

Monacan entered the fourth quarter leading 20-13 thanks to Ambers' 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Ambers also threw a scoring pass to Nate Tansey (six receptions, 66 yards) and finished with 93 yards passing. Troy Overby led the Chiefs with 163 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Austin Cundiff ran for 146 yards, and Trey McMorris scored two touchdowns to give the Rapids a victory over the Rebels in each team's season opener.

McMorris put the Rapids on top with a 3-yard plunge in the second quarter. Kevin Cabas scored from 2 yards out to put Douglas Freeman ahead 7-6 entering the fourth quarter. Cabas finished with 106 yards on 25 carries.

McMorris rumbled in from 30 yards for the go-ahead score for James River, and Sam Hunt sneaked in from 1 yard out with 5:11 to seal the game. Hunt finished 7 of 13 passing for 109 yards.

Wes Mason recorded six tackles and two sacks to lead a Rapids defense that held the Rebels to 149 yards.

Michael Tatter ran for 69 yards and two touchdowns as J.R. Tucker (1-0) defeated Glen Allen (0-1).

The Tigers were down 21-15 at half, but scored two TDs in two minutes without running an offensive play. Conrad Broadus returned the opening kickoff of the second half for a 76-yard touchdown. He was followed by teammate Marcus Moore, who returned an interception 42 yards for a score on Glen Allen's first offensive play of the second half.

Moore had two interceptions on the night.

Cole Hyman was 10 for 25 passing for 143 yards and a touchdown.

Ray Brown had 176 yards rushing and two touchdowns as the Indians (1-1) defeated Midlothian (0-1).

Powhatan's defense forced five turnovers, three interceptions and two fumbles, both of which the Indians recovered. Bobby Olesby had 10 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Midlothian's Dan Coon had 236 yards and two touchdown passes, both to Ryan Weiss.

Weiss had 11 carries and 79 yards on the ground and five catches for 146 yards with his two touchdowns.

Malcolm Cook had a 52-yard touchdown run and tossed a scoring pass to lead the Wildcats to a season-opening win over the Vikings (0-2).

Cook finished with 74 yards on the ground and 67 yards passing. Cook hit Vincent Herring for a 22-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. Herring also intercepted a pass. Curtis Thomas added 61 yards rushing and a score for Armstrong.

Patrick Clore ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs (1-0) past the Blue Devils. Clore's effort was part of a ground attack that gained 224 yards on 51 carries. Cody Johnson threw a touchdown pass to Jake Martin and sneaked in for another score, and Martin added a rushing touchdown.

Christian Hackenburg went 10 for 17 for 225 yards and two touchdowns for Fork Union (0-1). Hackenburg's favorite target was D.J. Randle El, who finished with six receptions for 213 yards and two touchdowns.

Nathaniel Settle rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, and Jerome Robinson returned a fumble recovery 95 yards for a score to lead Blessed Sacrament Huguenot (3-0) over North Cross (1-2).

Blessed Sacrament Huguenot forced five turnovers — three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Robinson's score came on a lateral attempt by North Cross, which was dropped behind the line of scrimmage, and Robinson returned it for six points.

Settle had 12 carries in the fourth quarter to run down the clock for Blessed Sacrament Huguenot.

Justin Smalkowski made the most of 10 carries with 209 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cougars to a season-opening win over the Titans.

Wilton Speight threw for a touchdown, ran for another and had 145 yards of total offense to back up Smalkowski's effort. Joseph Edwards caught three of Speight's passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Bryan Black led Trinity Episcopal (0-2) with 114 yards and two scores on 14 carries. Torey Burston kept the Titans in it in the first half with a 69-yard scoring romp and finished with 156 yards. It was the first time Trinity had two runners rush for more than 100 yards in the same game, and its 324 yards on the ground were the most since the school reinstated the program in 2005.
