Ashton Pollard led off a record-setting relay and won the 200-yard individual medley to stake the Collegiate girls to a first-night lead at the Virginia Swimming Independent Schools championships at the Freedom Center on Friday

The Cougars edged St. Catherine's by .16 seconds in the 200 medley relay and broke the Saints' record set last year by .05 seconds. Collegiate leads second-placed St. Catherine's, the four-time defending champions, by 25 points.

Hampton Roads Academy leads Woodberry Forest by one point in the boys competition. St. Christopher's and Collegiate are 36 and 37 points behind, respectively.
