Prep roundup: St. Christopher's wrestlers win 11th straight title

St. Christopher's won its 11th consecutive VISAA wrestling championship Saturday.

"We have a very young team," coach John Gordon said. "They understand the legacy and took their chance very seriously."

Benedictine completed its best wrestling season in school history with a ninth-place finish among 32 teams.

Benedictine also had its first state individual champion: Michael Logan in the 160-pound weight class.

"I couldn't be more proud of such an honest and hardworking young man," Cadets coach Ryan Hall said. Collegiate finished 12th in the tournament..

INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

 

LIS Championship

Several records were set at the LIS indoor track and field championships.

Fork Union earned the boys team victory. Performer of the year C.J. Prosise of Woodberry Forest set a meet record in the long jump at 22 feet, 4 inches.

Fork Union set a 1,600 relay record with a time of 3:33.8. Avery Martin of Fork Union set a mark in the 1,000 with 2:30.88. Eddie Witlock of St. Christopher's posted a record in the 1,600 with 4:20.91.

Denver Wright of Fork Union was named running performer of the year.

In the girls competition, Collegiate's 1,600 relay team set a record with 4:05.37. Austin Pruitt of Collegiate set a record in the 300 with 41:42, and Hannah Myers set a mark in the 55 hurdles with an 8:87.

Pruitt was named running performer of the year.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Torey Burston had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five assists as Trinity Episcopal defeated Christchurch 75-56 in the Prep League championship.

This is Trinity's first Prep League championship since 1997.

Nathan Swift had eight points and seven rebounds for the Titans.

Tri-Rivers Championship

 

Tatyana Calhoun scored 28 points and was named Tri-Rivers player of the year as Sussex defeated Appomattox Regional Governor's School 45-35.

Ja'Kara White led Appomattox with 14 points and six steals. Paris Brower had 11 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three blocks for Appomattox as well.
