Richmond having bad-air day

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Ozone, the main pollutant in smog, hit the very unhealthful Code Red level in Richmond today.

Active children and adults and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma should limit strenuous outdoor activities during such levels, state officials said.

To hold down pollution, officials are asking people to avoid unnecessary car trips, conserve power and limit the use of gasoline-powered equipment such as lawn mowers.

A high-pressure system is acting like a lid on the region by trapping pollution and holding down breezes that might disperse the bad air.
